Before applying…

Check you’re eligible

Before beginning the application process, please make sure that you (or the applicant you are applying for) fit the following criteria:

  • aged 5 - 25 years old (priority will be given to applicants under 21)

  • has been a resident in the City of Salford for more than three years

  • is unable to fund the opportunity through another source

All look good? See what you can apply for below!

Who can fill out the application?

You can fill in the application if you are a young person or their parent/guardian.

We also accept applications from other referees, such as teachers, support workers and mentors.

If you are one of the latter, please make sure you involve the young person and (where possible) a parent/guardian in the application process.

What can you apply for?

We review any applications for funding that will help a child or young person to learn, develop new skills, or take part in a character-building experience or activity.

Our funding limit is anything up to £500, but we may consider higher amounts in exceptional circumstances. If your application is successful, these funds will be paid directly to the provider of the service/equipment needed for your opportunity.

Examples of what we’ve funded in the past include:

  • A sport or hobby

  • Equipment or kit*

  • Music and performing arts

  • Short training courses to boost job prospects or skills

*If you are applying for apprenticeship equipment, we will only consider applications from those who are solely responsible for dependents, young carers or young people who live on their own.

Please note:

Due to high demand, we are not able to support everyone in their funding applications.

To be in with the best chance, please provide us with as much information as possible, including how the funding would make a difference to you or the person you are applying for.

What we can’t fund

We will NOT consider requests for the following:

  • Childcare costs

  • Course fees for school, college, university and associated general living expenses

  • School resources, e.g. electronic devices

  • Driving lessons and associated items, e.g. insurance and licences

  • Living expenses

  • Membership fees, e.g. gym passes

  • Remedial intervention, e.g. therapies (speech/language/occupational, etc.)

  • Retrospective funding (something that has already happened)

  • Standard school/college/sporting group trips

Residential excursions are not normally considered. However, in cases that are unique to the individual, we may consider how/if we can support the application.

We will NOT consider opportunities that:

  • have a political or religious focus

  • should be financed by statutory services

  • are for the benefit of a group of people, e.g. a school, youth club, etc.

This is not an exhaustive list and the eligibility criteria is reviewed on a quarterly basis.
